hii there!!
was actually sitting idle.....so thot of doing something productive.....i guess even orkutting is pretty productive.....ya!!apart from getting in touch with old buddies.......... u actually get to see some handsome guyz, and guess what???????? .....shhhhhh!!!!!!!!they actually, don't realise that i visited their profile......(yup!!that option is active), also some snooping..... trying to find out who did your boyfriend scrapped around while u were sleeping and dreaming about him ........ha!! ha!!
okay i realise............i am deviating away from my main topic.......... but then i also realise that orkutting has got into our blood...... we eat , sleep orkut, no wonder its one of the contenders of the MTV youth icon awards...... (any idea abt the results guyz????????)......... jai baba orkut!!!!
ya!!........ so where was i????? yup!! the nick-names
As i said before, was ,sitting absolutely idle and was looking at the ceiling.... when a thought came in my mind that why did i name myself...... SUPI.......??????? OR was it someone else who named..................oh ya!! just incase if u don't know...... my name is SUPARNA........ which if u break it into two halves..... means....(SU) BEAUTIFUL (PARNA) LEAF ...... sweet name with a beautiful meaning, isn't it??
Now the question arises that........ what does exactly the word nickname mean ........ looked into the webster pocket dictionary........ and it states -
1) its a diminutive as Tom for Thomas, 2 ) a descriptive or facetious name given to a person, place or a thing in derision or affection....
now again i had no idea about the meaning of the word DERISION..... and guess what the webster pocket dictionary states the meaning....... its .....AN ACT OF RIDICULE, SCORN.......
god!!!!?????? an act of ridicule......... ????? ya!! hope u can understand...... i got kinda scared reading the meaning......
so i checked the dictionary again if i cud find the meaning of the word SUPI.... my nick name....... and guess what.....
there seems to be no word as such........ also checked the MERRIAM - WEBSTER ONLINE SEARCH and the ENCYCLOPEDIA BRITANNICA SEARCH......... aahuh!!! bad luck no meaning........ :-(
and so after doing this research a thought just popped up in my mind........ !! and thats................
when we come out of our mamma's tummy....... we all r given names...... one good name which the whole world will know and also will be displayed on our certificates , voter id cards, passports.... etc.......
another name which our mum and dad will know and most importantly.....actually will not mean anything.............in some cases it may mean...... but then i guess thats rare......... atleast in the bengali culture...............and which may be something like toy, babli, shona, sonu, monu, goja...........and the meaningless list continues............
ohh!! ya!! one more thing...... these names will only echo inside the corridors of our houses.........ha!! ha!! coz........of their totally and absolutely meaningless funny nature.......... probably......... out here we get scared..... coz we do not want to be ridiculed by friends with these names.....................isn't it???????/ think about it......................................
and finally another name would be given by our friends....... and in my case its SUPI....... and guess what???? now there r sub - names to the name SUPI............... the list goes like.....
SUPZZ, SU, SOUP, SOUPY, SNOOPY, SOUP PI, SUPAI and the most stupid and kinda hillarious one.......... i actually hate it.........

this was discovered by my good friend paridhi .... while i was pursuing my degree in law....... (will kill u ;-) someday for this, buddy!!!!)
now the question arises that inspite of having one beautiful, meaningful name why do we need such nick-names....... infact why do we need such...................... meaningless, ridiculous, funny, nicknames????????
well!! i guess.......i can think of some reasons.........
one...... may be coz.........people may find a seven letter word tooooooooooo long to pronounce....... (as in my case).
OR in the case of actress TABU........ya!! guyz and galz!! just for ur knowledge............ her real name is Tabasuum...........
secondly..... i guess........ today nick-names r a fashion statement....... probably it sounds hep and cool and again...... probably its easy to pronounce........
thirdly...... i feel..... its just a way of showing ones affection towards you..........
but then why by changing the whole name...infact the meaning too and then sounding it to be kinda funny and ridiculous......... and then on top........ sometimes teasing with it too..........
ha!! ha!! whatever may the reason be............ i guess its kinda nice and a lil upsetting too......... i do like it when people call me with my nick-name........
but then the worse and upsetting part is............... some of my friends do not recognise me....... if i am referred as SUPARNA........... and u know what.......... that actually, actually ,actually........... upsets me!!!!!
